The Renfrew Top

The Renfrew Top by Sewaholic was my very first indie pattern purchase and make. I love this pattern. I have made many versions of it, with all of the different collar variations and with both long and short sleeves. After trying lots of other tee patterns, I keep going back to this one. For some reason no matter which knit I use, the collar band size always works (I can’t say this for all tee patterns). My favorite is the scoop neck version, with the V-neck a close second. The pattern calls for a banded waist hem, but I like just a simple one fold hem made with a twin needle.

Below you can see the version I made in a basic white cotton rib knit, which in the end was not the best fabric choice (this particular JoAnn find has very little stretch bounce back) but I do like it as a basic, and will keep wearing it until I make another long sleeve white version.

Below, not the best picture of the V-neck version, but the fabric on this one was a win. This black knit from Dry Goods Design in Seattle is an organic cotton jersey in 100% cotton. It did roll so that’s always tricky, and I just edged a hem with a twin needle on both the sleeves and the waist (instead of making the called-for banded hem). Note to self – next time take a deeper hem! I’m always forced to iron this one to keep it flat.

I do have one more long sleeve version in a deep green knit (which was the true first make of this pattern). Couldn’t find any photos of that one….it has the banded hem for both sleeves and waist.
